BOMA/Chicago Greets Governor Quinn
Last week, BOMA/Chicago President, George Kohl, Executive Vice President, Michael Cornicelli and Director of Government Affairs, Ron Tabaczynski, were on hand to greet Governor Pat Quinn at a reception being hosted in his honor. The Governor has been very supportive of both BOMA/Chicago’s work on energy and our position on energy related legislation.  Last year, the Governor appointed Cornicelli to represent the interests of commercial real estate on the Smart Grid Advisory Council. The meeting gave BOMA/Chicago a chance to brief the Governor about the BOMA Chicago Energy Center’s current Smart Grid Initiative and discuss a few issues likely to be addressed by the Illinois General Assembly during the current legislative session.

Lighting Up Chicago
In an attempt to boost Chicago tourism by 10%, or attract 55 million annual visitors by 2020, Mayor Rahm Emanuel has launched a two-pronged campaign under the Elevate Chicago banner. The first initiative of this campaign is opening an international competition to light the city at night. This competition will seek entries from artists, architects, planners and designers from around the world. The installation of lights will start with the river and eventually extend throughout the city. The second initiative, which will begin this year, is for Chicago to host a citywide celebration of the Chinese New Year. This celebration is expected to grow each year until it is the biggest in North America. This year’s celebration will run from January 31 through February 14. For more information, read Mayor Emanuel’s press release on the continued growth of Chicago tourism.
